July 1 - Rausch Gap Shelter (Day 104 – milepoint 1147.6)

Eleven miles today and it was Mom’s idea. (So this is where I get it from…) I think she was guided by the fact that there is a privy at the shelter and she could avoid having to dig a hole.

We didn’t see anyone today, a very rare occurrence on this thru-hike. We did, however, see the largest black snake I’ve ever seen. Mom didn’t find that as interesting as I did. Nor that my two most memorable snake sightings on this whole trip have been in the past two days with her. Go figure.
